HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, I HOPE YOU VOTE FOR ME: Bruce Langer announced his candidacy for Chelsea mayor during his 60th birthday Aug. 29.

At his big 60th birthday bash at Camp Fortune Aug. 29, Bruce Langer – owner of Doozy Candle – made an announcement: he’ll be running for Chelsea, Quebec mayor this fall.

“I think we need to look at the growth and changing times in this community in a different way than it’s been looked at before,” Langer told the Low Down.

A Chelsea resident for the last six years, Langer worked for 14 years as the town of Ajax, Ont.’s housing manager. He also worked in an Ottawa high-rise development on Donald St. for five years.

Langer said he’d been considering a run for mayor for several months. He objected to the closed nature of Chelsea’s council where meetings take place in camera beforehand.

“You don’t get to see how effective your council is at all,” Langer said., vowing to change the procedure if elected.
