As residents of this beautiful place, we like to think that politics in Chelsea is different from politics elsewhere. Sadly, whether you are in Beijing, Washington or Chelsea, the key political question is always the same: In whose interests are decisions being made?

Typically, politicians favour small groups of well-organized, energetic and noisy vested interests rather than the unorganized and somewhat confused interests of the majority. The majority tend to think nothing they do will make a difference anyway, so they stay away. Of course, politicians dress up their decisions in politically-correct language, and bury sensitive information to avoid trouble.

In fact, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

We do not have a community evenly divided on the key issues, as some pretend. We have a noisy few and a disengaged majority.

Here are the election issues:

1a. Planned development  that benefits the majority

vs.

 1b. Unplanned suburban sprawl that benefits a few property owners and local businesses
2a. Managed debt

vs.

 2b.Un-managed, out-of-control debt
3a. Municipal tax increases
in line with inflation

vs.

 3b.Continued municipal tax increases far above inflation
4a. Amenities and services we can afford

vs.

 4b. Whatever amenities and
services people say they want
5a. Let a minority take and keep control

vs.

 5b. Somehow get the reluctant majority involved and speaking up.
