Editorial serves up helping of mean-spiritedness

The Editor,

Why do the NEWS editorials often have to be so mean-spirited, even when the subject is generosity (“The 100 Mile Donation” – Low Down, Dec. 8 edition)?

Helping out in Africa or elsewhere is not simple. There are many pitfalls as well as success stories.

However, doing nothing is easy and safe and you will be the poorer for it.

It is true that although Canada is a rich country, there are still many needy people in our communities.

Judging by the amount of money that we spend in shopping centres at this time of year, I know that a lot of us can afford to help a little both here and farther afield.

Many, many Canadians do it and they are the richer for it.
