A five-year-old girl was injured after she fell off a Camp Fortune ski lift in Chelsea, Quebec Feb. 19.

According to MRC des Collines police spokesperson Martin Fournel, the girl was sent to the hospital in an ambulance with severe head injuries.

“The kid was on the chair lift with a ski instructor and fell under the bar and fell about thirty feet,” he said.

Police did not receive a call about the morning incident, but learned of it in a Feb. 22 article in Le Droit, the Gatineau French daily.

According to the article, the girl also suffered a broken femur. She was riding the lift with a 16- or 17-year-old ski instructor.

Le Droit said that such incidents rarely happen and that the instructor was traumatized by the accident.

The police sent an investigator Feb. 22. At the time, Fournel said he was still unsure as to whether charges will be laid. The girl’s identity and home were not known.
