Hwy 5 project in Wakefield, Quebec gets full green light

Phase two for the Hwy 5 extension project in Wakefield, Quebec has been fully approved by the province’s environment ministry and the work that stretches 6.5 kilometers from the Meech Creek Bridge to Wakefield should begin in the next week or two. According to the Ministry of Transport du Quebec (MTQ) the contract for the work was awarded Feb. 2 to Couillard Construction for a total of $61 million. It’s tough news for Eco Watch and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, who have both been calling for a stoppage of work until more studies are conducted.
