The Editor,

To answer Todd Evan’s question, “How much more would someone earn if they did speak French in Quebec?”, which he posed in his recent column, “Would French help your business?”: According to the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, the median individual income for bilingual Quebecers in 2001 was about $25,500, compared to just $16,575 for unilingual Anglophones. In other words, Anglophones who can speak French earn nearly $9,000 more a year – an increase of over 50%. Now isn’t that worth some French classes?
