Lyrics to “The Black Sheep Inn” by Lindsay Ferguson.

How could I ever putinto words the way I feel from countless nights of pin-drop playing heart-stopping moments?

All I could ever do is take you for a ride through the chords of my guitar, strumming at Le Mouton Noir

It isn’t always easy booking gigs or touring all alone, but when in Wakefield you bet I will be going to

The Black Sheep Inn,

The Black Sheep Inn

If there was ever any doubt, when I walk in through the doors the music thrills me on CD or from the stage

There are so many music Lovers in the house, they listen hard I have to say, could be the best room that I’ve played

It doesn’t matter where you’re coming from, the music stands alone; all the way from

Ireland or Mongolia

from Texas or Newfoundland

from the Yukon, salt Spring Island

from Mexico or Australia

all at The Black Sheep Inn

The Black Sheep Inn

If these walls could ever talk they’d prob’ly sing and tell of stories from the Pearson days, or even speak of the ghosts,

and if you’re lucky you might even get to hear Little Lucy steal the stage, what a singer that she makes!

She knows exactly how to charm a room, she’ll strut the checkerboards and she’ll be waiting at, participating at

The Black Sheep Inn

The Black Sheep Inn

on Sunday afternoons, you can watch the children dance

and in July, jump off the raft if you get the chance,

ahhhhh swimming in the Gatineau

or watching through the bay window…..

at The Black Sheep Inn (x4)

For alll of you who didn’t like Martha Wainwright’s Black Sheep song “Four Black Sheep in the Night” for CBC’s Songquest  will have exciting news!

After numerous readers suggested her, The Low Down has convinced Wakefield’s own Lindsay Ferguson to craft her own song dedicated to the village juke joint.

Now is the chance for all of you to let Ferguson know what you think is important about the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield.

Send in your  photos, videos, lyrics and songs, memories –  anything that you feel will inspire Ferguson as she completes her song.

Ferguson will be unveiling the song live at the Black Sheep Inn Feb. 11.

Hello everybody!
It’s monday night! I have been a very naughty girl what with NOT blogging! I was never one for THAT word and you can be SUre that it will not appear in the BSI song… BSI, not anything to do with CSI to be sure. My high school was BCI… not that THAT matters. But what is a blog anyway??? I mean isn’t it meant to be a wee bit of a ramble?? I could talk to you about how I really want to use this one melody rhythm thing that I have come up with for the BSI song, BUT I can’t sing & play it at the same time… what am I like??? Somedays I wish I didn’t have to play guitar at ALL, and JUST sing… but alas, I tried that once and me & my guitar player kept fighting, cuz he never wanted to do shows that weren’t full band full sound “play your guitar behind your back with your eyes closed” type show.. so I went out and bought myself a guitar and have been working on it ever since.. even though I never really wanted to from the start. So if THAT isn’t dedication I don’t know what is. I could talk to you about how this morning I woke up to crows, and it really freaked me out. I don’t remember hearing crows in January… is that normal? Am I right to be freaked out??? I want to go cross country skiing too.. is it gonna snow again?? I know, it’s still only January… believe me, I KNOW february is fast approaching (wink wink Feb. 11th) but HECK… it feels AND smells like Spring. Which it ISN’T folks. It’s time to write a song though, I feel THAT too… and I can do that in any weather. Perhaps someone out there can drop a line here and offer up some suggestions for, well I don’t know, tell me how much you Love the Sheep. I know I do, and I could easily write a Love song for the place, but it would be great to get some input. You TOO can inspire.

Hi Lindsay… if you’re still looking for suggestions re the Black Sheep song, may I suggest that you incorporate all the names by which the Black Sheep is/has been known… i.e. “the sheep”, “BSI”, “B-a-a, B-a-a” etc. I’m not familiar with them all, but perhaps some of your readers might be… or you for that matter, since you’ve been going there since you were knee high to a grasshopper!

hey girl,

Glad to hear you’ve taken the challenge to write a BS/Wakefield tribute song and show that Martha what’s her name how it’s done eh? Jennifer has a good idea about tracing the history of the place. Always was the heart of the village, though the village has changed little around it, the BS has gone through a metamorphosis. I don’t remember the Chateau Diotte days but I found an old plastic stir stick for drinks that has a sexy woman in a bikini. Chateau Pearson was unique for the big bison head that hung on the back wall, I wonder what happened to that? The current BS has kept it’s charm with the past. Some say the upstairs is haunted which could explain a lot “haunting melodies?”. Can’t wait to hear what you come up with, so have fun and keep singing to the Gods!

Hi thanks for the comments..
But you know what?
The first time I attended a show there I was 21… so I wasn’t knee-high, but I am sure my spirit knew about the place since the start…
As for Martha Wainwright, she is a talented beautiful songstress, and I am honoured to write a song for the sheep because I Love the place, not for any reasons of competition…
Glad to do it!! and it’s (they) are coming along nicely…
Nothing finished yet!

It’s beautiful Lindsay. Simple. Innocent. Playful. Wistful. Much like you, actually!
