Wakefield village in La Peche municipality is a gem – we all know this to be true. Some of us have lived here forever, while others chose to move here because of its special allure. However, I think we can all agree that we are at a critical time in the area’s evolution.
Change is on the way, whether we like it or not. The next four years of growth need to be shepherded carefully by our smart, creative, involved citizens. The person who can communicate best, who has a track record of community involvement and a desire to listen and lead with transparency and energy should win this critical ward stewardship.
When I moved to this area from the “big city” I too imagined a supportive, diverse community where farmers, trades people, and artists could live and thrive in harmony. I have found that and more here in wonderful Wakefield. But I saw a great need for change in the way the region was governed. Rather than just protesting change imposed on us from on high, I and others have worked hard to find native intelligence in this community.
And we have found her! In my opinion, Nathalie Poirier is the best person to represent Wakefield.
Nathalie’s skill set includes compassionate, civic involvement through her involvement in organizing sports events that give back to community groups; her business acumen, which ensured success in the various business activities she’s run, will certainly serve her and Wakefielders well as we evolve into our creative economy; and as an artist, Nathalie has built the creative muscles needed to move from vision to action – the Farrellton Artists’ Space is a perfect example.
