Reading through the last few weeks of articles, letters and opinions, I am already dreading the upcoming municipal elections.
I do not speak for anyone else, but please, everyone, stop with the negative news and criticisms! It’s very easy to opine and complain about what your elected officials have done wrong; what they haven’t accomplished; what they didn’t deliver on, and who’s conspiring with whom – it’s so tiring and small-minded.
The latest anti-incumbent blog quietly circulating is a perfect example of this. (Ed. note: on Monday, Oct. 7, the www.chelseavotes.ca referred to is no longer active). If you think my vote is going to go to anyone who’s dissing anyone else as their primary platform, you’re sadly mistaken. If the website speaks to how the municipality will run, then I won’t have it. Elections are supposed to be about who and what you are voting for – not who and what you are voting against.
So please, people, give us your vision, and send the Low Down your letters telling us why you’ll vote for a contender.
If you’re running in this election, tell us what you’d love to tackle, and how you’ll address positive growth and change – something all, who quietly work and volunteer in the wings, put their energy towards every day throughout this region.
