There don’t seem to be any financial aid programs to help get the steam train back on track, according to Transports Québec.
The Compagnie du chemin de fer de l’Outaouais (CCFO) requested $5 million to repair damage to the tracks caused by heavy rain in June 2011, but it doesn’t appear as though Transports Québec will be coughing up any time soon.
According to Transports Québec spokesperson Sarah Bensadoun, “the current programs we have don’t allow us to respond to this request.”
The CCFO is eligible to apply for financial assistance offered by Transports Québec, but, according to Bensadoun, funding isn’t currently available.
She added that the financial program that the steam train was benefitting from ceased to exist in 2011. It was this program that provided the CCFO with money to repair damage to the tracks caused by landslides in 2008 and 2009.
