MRC des Collines police nabbed a drunk driver this weekend in Wolf Lake after he rolled his car, but when they arrived on the scene they noticed the man was naked.

According to spokesperson Martin Fournel, police received a domestic disturbance call from a woman at about 4 a.m. on June 5. With police en route to answer that call, dispatch received another call from nearby neighbours on Pontbriand Road., saying that a car had crashed on their lawn.

Officers linked the two calls, realizing a male in the domestic disturbance incident had fled the house in a hurry before officers arrived.

“We can presume that he knew she was calling the police,” said Fournel. “He was probably, saying ‘I’m going to get out of here before the cops arrive.’ But he forgot to put his clothes on,” Fournel added with a laugh.

The 53-year-old Wolf Lake man didn’t make it far, crashing his car in a nearby ditch before rolling it onto the neighbour’s lawn.

When police arrived, the man was wedged between the two front seats, suggesting he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. According to Fournel, the man didn’t realize he not wearing clothes until police told him.

“He was giving the officers a hard time, saying ‘I want my dentures, I want my dentures,’ ” said Fournel. “He didn’t even know he was naked.”

The officers told him he seemed more worried about his teeth than being naked in front of them, and then he looked down and realized he had forgotten to get dressed.

Police found the man’s dentures in the front-seat air bag, which had deployed in the crash.

The man was taken to the Hull hospital to treat minor injuries and undergo a blood test for alcohol. Although Fournel doesn’t have the resulting number, the man was impaired.

“He was drunk enough to not put on clothes,” he said with a chuckle.

He will now face a charge for impaired driving.
