Former Chelsea mayor Caryl Green to run for Quebec Liberals

Former Chelsea Mayor Caryl Green

Former Chelsea Mayor Caryl Green is throwing her hat in the ring for the Quebec Liberals.

Green confirmed her candidacy to the Low Down on March 7 and said that, if elected, she would focus on the biggest issue facing the Gatineau riding, which is health services.

"We are seeing a lot of change with the proposed mega-hospital in Gatineau," said Green. "What will that do to Wakefield, what will that do to Maniwaki?"

Green added that seniors housing, socio-economic disparity and climate change are other areas where she would focus her attention.

Green was mayor of Chelsea for 12 years and stepped down in 2021 to run for the MRC prefect, which she lost to Marc Carrière.

If Green is given the tap as the Gatineau Liberal candidate, it could make for an interesting race come October, as she would be facing former La Pêche mayor and current Gatineau MNA Robert Bussière. The 2022 Quebec general elections take place Oct. 3.

More to come.
