His uncle, Aung Swe Thowai, posted just the funeral details on Facebook. It will be held after the Dhur midday prayer at the Ottawa Muslim Association Mosque.

Chowdury’s body was recovered on July 25, following an hours-long search by the MRC des Collines Police. Police were called around 1 p.m. when Chowdhury didn’t resurface while swimming with friends near the covered bridge.

Police borrowed snorkels and masks, and a pontoon boat from local residents in their search for the young man’s body. They also enlisted a fire department boat and Surete du Québec divers.

According to MRC des Collines police, their investigation shows that Chowdury was not a strong swimmer and not wearing a life jacket.

Chowdury is the second international student to drown by the bridge in the last six years. In 2015, a 23-year-old Algonquin College student from Zimbabwe drowned in the unforgiving current. I’m that case, a coroner found he had more than four times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

Alcohol was not a factor in Monday’s drowning, according to police.
