It’s our 50th birthday!

Exactly 50 years ago today, “the little paper” called The Low Down to Hull and Back News was born. On Oct. 11, 1973 the very first edition rolled off the presses and hit the few newsstands in the Gatineau Hills at that time.

Miraculously, we are still here today! And we have a big, bursting-at-the-seams birthday edition as a special gift to our readers.

We’ve dedicated five decades and more than 37,000 articles to telling stories all about this community; we thought a major milestone like this was a good enough reason to tell you some of our story. If you aren’t that familiar with the Low Down, we hope you’ll enjoy getting to know us a little better through our special 50th anniversary edition. If you’ve been reading us for a while, we hope you’ll forgive our nostalgic indulgence and even enjoy the origin stories of “the little paper” as we were affectionately called in the early days.

Cheers, Gatineau Hills readers!

We wouldn’t have made it this far without you.
