OSLER, Robert Erwin

~ February 9, 1930 – October 10, 2023 ~

It is with great sadness we announce Robert (Bob) Erwin Osler passed away on October 10, 2023, at the age of 93.

He was predeceased by his parents, Erwin Ralston Osler and Mary Cecelia Jane (Livingstone) Osler, and his brother, Neil Thomas Osler. He is survived by his wife, Anna Catherine (MacDonald) Osler.

Bob was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan and left the prairies for adventure in the 1950s. Bob possessed a quiet and gentle demeanor. He was a highly regarded architect and received his Diploma in Architecture, with Distinction, from The Polytechnic, Regent School, London, England, in 1959. He worked in the profession for over 40 years, in private practice in Toronto, Australia, the UK and Canada. He was a key member of the design team for the Lothian Mews (Toronto), which won the Massey Medal for Architecture (1964). He was a professor of architecture at Carleton University for twenty years and Acting Director of the School of Architecture (1986-88).

Bob was also the Chief Architect, National Capital Region, Public Works and Government Services Canada and was involved with many significant projects in Ottawa, including Parliament Hill.

In his retirement years Bob and Catherine enjoyed their home, “Culla”, in Chelsea on the Gatineau River, singing with the Castenchel Choir, cooking, playing bridge, travelling, and enjoying time with friends while taking on the occasional house design project. We would like to extend our appreciation to all the staff at Villagia in the Glebe and St. Elizabeth Health Care for their compassionate care during Bob’s recent health challenges. Cremation has taken place, and a private inurnment will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Bob.
