Updated: Dec 6, 2021

~ July 9, 1936 – August 7, 2021 ~

Passed away peacefully at home on August 7th, in his 86 th year. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Clare Ryan. Companion and dear friend of Marlene. Loving father of Jenny (Pablo) and Paddy (Kevin), and Carrie too! Grandpa Tom to Teo and Alanzo. Dear son of the late William and Gabrielle Ryan. Dear brother of Patsy, Margaret, Frank, and Bill, and the late Ed. Brother-in-law to Colleen, Bill, Ted, and the late Pat and Brian. He is also survived by many well-loved nieces and nephews.

After graduating from University of Iowa, Tom and his very young family moved to London, Ontario where he taught at Western University. In the mid-60s, he took a job at Carleton University and the family moved to the Gatineaus, where he remained for the rest of his life. His career saw him progress from Psychology prof to Chairman of the Psychology Department, to Dean of Arts, and finally Vice-President Academic. Tom and Clare loved the Gatineaus, skiing, sailing, and the cottage on 31 Mile Lake. After retiring, Tom and Clare started up the Wakefield Walkers, and taught skiing at Vorlage Ski School (Tom right up until he was 83!).

Tom was known for his kindness and generosity, and loved his community. He was well known in the Wakefield community and will sorely missed. His wish for a celebration of his life will be fulfilled at a later date, to be announced once restrictions are lifted.
