St. Mike’s ‘will now be that celebration’

The Editor,

A big fist pump (or elbow tap!) to reporter Hunter Cresswell and Low Down to Hull and Back News for that fine feature on the Michael Francis Family Trust contributions to the St. Michael’s High School outdoor-ed program. It was welcome and happy news as we head into this winter of pandemic anxiety.

Mike’s friends were disappointed that there could not be a proper celebration of life in the town he so loved and served so well as councillor and mayor, but we are very pleased that the school he fought so hard to save will now be that celebration. The school and other community groups will now have a part of Mike Francis’s legacy — and for that we are most grateful.

This has meant the world to Mike’s wife, Edie Van Alstine, their sons Justin, and his partner Rebecca, and Matthew, and his partner Kelsey, and will one day mean much to his grandchildren, Hunter, Evie and Emma Francis.

Several of Mike’s friends have also contributed to the school foundation in his memory. Should anyone else wish to, the address is: People for the Future of St. Michael’s Foundation, 26, chemin Principal, Low, PQ, J0X 2C0.
