Hills herb hobbyist plan Rupert gathering

Bring your botanical bonnets to the Wakefield Herb Gathering Day on Aug. 13.

On this day of celebrating and embracing local plants, trees and mushrooms, Wakefield residents are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, drinks/snacks, a notebook and pen, cash and more, for a day filled with workshops, contests, herb walks and browsing local vendors. Some of the events include a fire cider-tasting contest, a sun hat-decorating contest and a medicine plant scavenger hunt.

Twelve workshops will be held throughout the day, hosted by various naturalists and herbalists, including Johanne Fontaine, Steven Martyn, Kelly McDowell, Megan Spencer, and others. Vendors at the Herb Gathering are invited to sell products made from natural materials, such as plants, textiles and pottery.

The Herb Gathering is taking place at 325 Ch. Shouldice Sunday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a special opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. The day will host an estimated 100 to 150 people. More information and tickets at wakefieldherbgathering.com.
