Wakefield’s DragonFest is back with a roar after a three-year pandemic hiatus.
Centre Wakefield La Pêche will host a day of activities for the whole family on Jan. 28 from 12 to 4 p.m.
During the afternoon of winter festivities, everyone is welcome to celebrate the return of the snow dragon. The event includes storytelling sessions, ice carving, snow painting, tug of war, a chili cook-off, and the ever-popular waitering race, where skaters carry a tray of cups without spilling on the ice.
This event celebrates Wakefield’s snow dragon. Legend has it that the baby dragon emerges from the snow during the last week of January and the first week of February.
When the festival began 22-years ago, the event organizers realized that the festival coincided with Phil Cohen’s birthday — Wakefield’s village poet. So, in celebration of both the snow dragon and Cohen, festival organizers will serve cake to attendees, which will take place at 3:15 p.m.
